Fun and Games at Taskworks

March6

“Stomp, Stomp” came the sound from one of our activities at Taskworks. Today all of the 1/2s, some parents and our teachers went on an excursion to Taskworks in Mulgrave. We were put into six groups and we were able to complete six different activities. All of these activities helped us with our learning. We needed to concentrate, work as a team, challenge ourselves, co-operate and use our memory. The six activities were:

1. “Build it”, where we had to disassemble and reassemble a robot.

2. “Create a Scene”, where we got to where different costumes and pose in different ways in front of different backgrounds.

3. “The Cable Maze”, where we had to go with a partner and find our way out of a maze made out of cables while trying to improve our times.

4. “Stomp a Stump”, where we worked with a partner trying to stomp plastic stumps that popped out of the ground. We needed to stomp as many as we could in a set time.

5. “Peg Fast” where we had to work in teams and put all the pegs in holes, trying to beat our own times as well as the three other teams.

6. “Puzzle Room”, where we got to use big blocks to build anything we wanted, ride a bike, match the flag with the country and making pictures with shapes.

What was your favourite activity?

Music, music, music!

February15

Today we had our second music class with Jennifer.  We have music every Friday. We sang a welcome song when we came into the room. We sang a song called “Goodnight, Sleep tight” to help us learn about the beat. We used musical instruments to help us with the rhythm. Jennifer taught us a dance where we had to say hello in five different languages. Jennifer also introduced us to her friend, Fuzzy the clown. We then pretended we were like Fuzzy the Clown in our boxes and then we popped up and we danced. We practised singing “Advance Australia Fair” for our school assemblies. Lilli then played “Ode to Joy” on the keyboard. We enjoy our music classes and we are looking forward to all the exciting things we are going to do with Jennifer.

What do you like about music?

Shrove Tuesday – Pancakes Galore!

February12

Today we made pancakes because it is Shrove Tuesday. We have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday because it is the day before Lent and we need to use up all the yummy things in our cupboards and our fridge. We made dutch pancakes using the proper machines. We used  3 eggs, sugar, Self raising flour, water and milk. When we were cooking them, one “exploded’ – it rose and splattered. It smelt delicious when it was cooking. When they were cooking they looked like little balls. When we finished cooking them we could choose our toppings. There was maple syrup, icing sugar, lemon juice and jam. We could have different combinations. We used toothpicks to turn them and eat them. They were yummy! Some of us didn’t want our lunch.

What is your favourite topping?

Healthy bodies, healthy minds!

February11

Today we started sports on Mondays. We were split into three groups and mixed with children from the other two classes. One group went with Liz and they did some yoga in the adventure playground, another group went with Edel into the hall and they played some soccer while the last group played rounders on the turf. We will stay in the same activity next week and then we will move on to the next group.

What sport would you like to learn this year?

Table Lotto – who will be lucky enough to sit next to me?

February11

Every Monday morning our class will be engaging in the game of table lotto. When we come into the classroom we will sit in our seats from the previous week and we will share a positive experience we learnt from sitting beside our partner. Name cards will then be placed in front of us, turned upside down. We will then be asked to turn them over and find our new seat and our new partner for the coming week. By the end of the year we will have learnt lots of new things about our classmates!

What makes you a good learner?

Are we there yet?

February8

Today we finished reading the story “Are we there yet?” by Alison Lester. We enjoyed reading about the family’s adventures as they travelled around Australia. We had some great discussions about some of the places they visited, including the Ned Kelly statue in Glenrowan. The children were then asked to respond to the story in any way they wanted to. Some chose to make up their own play, others chose an art and craft piece while some completed an open-minded portrait about one of the characters in the story.
